How to Remove Windows Not Genuine Notification Message Without Downloads

Do you have some text at the bottom right corner of your desktop, like this?

Windows 7
Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine

And, while using MS Office applications (e.g. Word), do you get pop-up notifications about every 15 minutes , asking you to resolve your un-genuine Windows?

If so, you have come to the right place!

*NO DOWNLOADS REQUIRED*

To remove the pop-up notifications, follow these steps:

  1. Go to:  Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Windows > System32
  2. Look for the file called slui.exe
  3. Before you do anything, make a backup copy of this file
  4. Take ownership of the file in order to delete it:
    • Right-click on the file > Properties > Security tab > Advanced > Owner tab > Edit
    • Select your user profile (usually non-admin), then click Apply
    • Close all previous windows except the one with slui.exe
    • Right-click on the file > Properties > Security tab > Edit
    • Under "Group or usernames", select your username, then under "Permissions for users", insert ticks for all items under the Allow column, then click Apply
    • You'll receive a pop-up informing that you're changing permission settings on system folders can result in unexpected access problems and reduced security. Click Yes
    • Click OK to close the previous windows, until you come to the one with slui.exe again
    • Hit delete on slui.exe, click OK
  5. That's it. Now you won't get anymore popup notifications while working on MS Office apps.

Disclaimer:
The only downside to this method is that the pop-up notification appears when you open other Windows programs, such as Notepad, Calculator, etc. But that's minor, compared to the initial problem:)

How to Unfreeze "Initializing" message When Viewing PDF on Chrome

When clicking on a PDF file to view it, a window pops up to show it loading with the message "Initializing...". After a while, you notice that the window is indeed frozen and there is no progress in getting the PDF shown.

This is because of a conflict occuring between Adobe Reader X and Chrome PDF viewer.

What you need to do:
1. Type "chrome:plugins"  in the address bar in Chrome
2. Search for "Adobe Viewer X", then Disable it
3. Search for "Chrome PDF viewer", then Enable it.
After this, everything should work once again.

How to Increase Volume for Youtube Videos

Sometimes videos on Youtube tend to be a little soft in volume, despite you having increased it using the most 2 obvious ways: (1) the volume slider on the Youtube video itself; and (2) the volume slider on your device/PC

Is there any other simple way of raising the volume, short of buying an external amplifier with its own speakers?

Here's a tip on how to increase the volume within Windows7's own software:

1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound
2. On the "Playback" tab, ensure the "Speakers/Headphones" option is selected, then click the "Properties" button below.
3. Go to the "Enhancements" tab, and TICK the "Loudness Equalization", then OK.
Note: You can hear the immediate difference by using the "Preview" button to test before and after scenarios.

How to Post GIF Images on Whatsapp

With so many image-sharing websites nowadays, it isn't hard to come across an animated GIF image that is so funny and entertaining that you just absolutely want to share it with your Whatsapp contacts. Unfortunately on first try, attaching the GIF image just seems to send a static image to your friends. There's no animation, no chance to share the moment. What happened?

You need to convert it to a video, and here's how:

1. Go to http://www.online-convert.com (opens new window)
2. Video Converter > Select target format (convert to flv)
3. Choose either "Upload your video you want to convert to FLV" or "Enter URL of the file you want to convert to FLV", and select your GIF image
4. Hit the "Convert File" button
5. Once done, the FLV file will be downloaded automatically into your device and you will be presented with a screen where you can (a) redownload the FLV file, and (b) delete the file from the website's server
6. Now, open Whatsapp Messenger
7. Open the chat window of the contact(s) you wish to send the GIF
8. Attach (paperclip icon at top right) > Gallery > Video > All Videos > Recent
9. You'll be able to preview the GIF image one last time before sending it by pressing the play button on the GIF
10. Send!

How to Buy a New Laptop Without Future Regrets

Things to consider

Screen
Glossy or matte?
Glossy - If you see yourself working outdoors or where there are unpredictable lighting e.g. in cafes, then it will be difficult to see the screen if using glossy. Matte screen won't give you this effect.
Matte - Becoming uncommon these days at a value-for-money price

Weight
Do you intend to move around much, e.g. moving laptops from home to workplace, and vice versa?
Lightweights tend to around 1.5kg; anything above 2kg.

Sound system
Laptops these days tend to have speakers which face downwards (towards the ground), rather than toward you, leaving a rather flat sound experience if you prize getting the most out of gaming experience.

LinkedIn Founder Shares New Mindblowing Management Tips

Reid Hoffman, cofounder of LinkedIn. Credit: Max Morse/Getty
The era of lifetime employment by a single company are long gone, and the notion of loyalty has vanished.

Companies now hire people into their "family", with the disclaimer that they can be fired at any time, for any reason.

Employees say insist they are loyal, but leave the moment a better offer arrives.

This dishonest relationship, argues LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, is causing companies to lose their most valuable people at dangerous rates.

In his new book The Alliance: Managing Talent in the Networked Age, Hoffman and entrpreneurs Ben Casnocha and Chris Yeh explain how employers can attract and retain the best employees through the formation of alliances whre everyone wins.

The authors created a presentation outlining their book's main principles, which Hoffman and LinkedIn leaders have used to grow the company into a Silicon Valley powerhouse with a market cap of $20 billion.
